Practice Day and Transponder Tests

The Canaan Lions Club Motocross is proud to announce that the 2009 Motocross Season will be scored with Trackside's new Transponder system.

In preparation for this new system, the Lions Club Motocross will hold a practice day on May 16th 2009. On that day Trackside personnel will be at the track to sell the new Transponder.  However, you can also purchase your Transponder after March 31, 2009, directly from Trackside @ http://www.tracksidesoftware.com. For those wishing to purchase their Transponder at the Lions track on May 16th, the plan is to have riders purchase their transponders. Then register those riders for our yearly membership and into the Moto's they wish to ride using the new software system with the rider's transponder/bike number. At 10:30, all classes will have practice time to ensure that the new system is identifying all riders.  A lunch break will be held at 12-12:30PM and then at 12:30, one Moto for each Class will be run.

The following fees are for the Practice day on May 16th 2009, and are designed to cover the Lions fixed expenses for the day.

Gate Fee: $10.00 per vehicle

Yearly membership Fee $30.00 (Normal Membership Fee)

Class Entry Fee:           $10.00 for Each Class

Transponder Rental: $15.00 a day and a deposit of $150.00 or leave a credit card. Card or money will be returned once transponder is returned

No Trophies or Points will be awarded for this day

Transponder Information from Trackside

Lightweight, long-life, accurate

The new Trackside Transponder is to be mounted on the fork tube of the motorcycle, behind the number plate.  The transponder comes with a three year warranty and is expected to last 8-10 years.  Each transponder has a unique 7 digit number

The transponder does require charging.  A full charge can last for many races since the transponder goes to sleep when it is not in motion.  This means that you should get to race several motos on one charge.  Your transponder is also put into "sleep" mode when it is in the charging saddle.

A single Transponder should not be shared by racers, but can be shared if used by other family members or not to disrupt other races.  Each racer should have his/her own transponder.  The Trackside software provides a data entry field for the user to enter the transponder id for each racer.  When the racer registers for the race, they will need to give the promoter the ID of the transponder they will use for the event.  The user then enters the ID the same as they would enter the bike number for the racer.  When that transponder passes the finish line, the software will know exactly who the racer is.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
In Trackside Software, each racer is entered into one or more classes and has a transponder number associated with each entry.  At the finish line, there will be an antennae buried 6-8 inches below.  When the transponder passes over the antennae, a message is sent to the computer indicating which transponder passed and the exact time it passed.  The software then looks to see who the racer was and calculates which place the racer is in.  At the end of the event, the user tells the software that the race is over and the software does a final calculation of each racer¢â¡Ás placement for final results.

The new Transponders will cost $150.00 with charger.  The Transponders from AMB now cost $250.00 each which is why Trackside chose this new Transponder

The Transponders will only work at the Lions Track in 2009.  However, in 2010 the Derby and Winchester Tracks will be switching to the new Transponders so the money spent now is not lost if you plan on continuing to race.
